Psychology (Clinical)

Clinical Psychology is a diverse and influential role involving the diagnosis, treatment, and support of individuals with mental health needs.

  • Overview – Clinical Psychology
    • GCSES A-C: Strong set of GCSES in English, maths, and sciences (pressure on sciences being above grade C to be able to study at A-Level).
    • A-Levels – my personal subjects Psychology, Media Studies, Sociology (though most universities favour a science) AAA-BBB most universities require.
    • BSc Psychology (essential to be BPS accredited) awarded by the British Psychological Society.
    • Not essential but helpful MSc in Clinical Psychology, Mental health, etc.

    • Any experiences working in the NHS, admin, academic research, healthcare assistance, voluntary, and charity work.

    • Monday to Friday 9-5 in the NHS / Private practice / Community working / Role Split
  • Average Salary
    • Post University (varied - Band 4,5,6) either clinical or research experiences in the NHS or university.
    • In training funded band 6 salary with higher cost of living allowance in London.
    • Qualified Psychologist Band 7-8D in experience.

    • Psychology is a varied role with lots of autonomy in expertise. A clinical psychologist has multiple roles from clinical therapy, research, leadership, management, community work, supervision, personal interests working with communities and charities.
    • I recognise my role within the systems that diagnose, treat, and support; this means I can hold power in decision-making. Furthermore, the use of my role in advocating for communities within the Sikh diaspora - in and out of paid employment. Representation in socio-political fields with my academic knowledge and identity to have power in, decision-making, advocacy, and education.

    • Psychological intervention could be used with AI through delivering low-level psychological needs such as anxiety and depression.
    • Used in research when completing literature searches, screening referrals.
    • Reflective practice, debates, etc.
